Yamaha Replaces The T7 Concept With… The Ténéré 700 World Raid Concept

Tenere 700 review

We look forward to seeing what the North American bike specs come in with as far as spring rates and valving. The front wheel features dual 282mm front wave discs with Brembo brake calipers, and the rear has a single 245mm disc with Brembo components. The bike, even when pushed to the limit, does stay straight nicely. Ride Expeditions set out on the next incarnation of the iconic model, taking on roads and trails to get a feel of the 2019 Tenere. After the first model back in 1983, the Tenere went through gradual changes to the original, with model changes in 1989 and again in 1994, the bike sadly gaining weight with each incarnation. The initial impression from the front is that they are soft, but once into the stroke they are well supported giving good feedback on road.

We took some turns into the shock preload in search of more front tire bite, and it helps a bit. A lower seat and suspension link are available to reduce the seat height to 33 inches. The 689cc motor is tractable too — its ability to dig in and chug from a whisker of finely tuned throttle in third gear without subsequently running away on a whiskey grip gives the Ténéré proper offer chops for entry-level off road riders. The exhaust is a two-into-one low slung pipe that snakes through the swing arm with a right side end can. Instead, another concept, called the Ténéré 700 World Raid. Whatever the fuel, the tank should give a range of up to 350km or around 220 miles, so just a bit below what the outgoing 660 Tenere would give you. The R version develops peak power at lower revs. The aluminum skid plate hovers over the 9. While fueling is very well-tuned on the Tenere 700, there is a fair bit of driveline lash when rolling the throttle back on. Although the transmission is unchanged internally, the final drive was altered to a 15 front and 46 rear, though serious off-roaders might want to change those numbers a tad. Due to differing government regulatory standards and factory production line schedules, the all-new Ténéré 700 is scheduled to arrive at U.

Curb Weight Claimed : 449. But what about all our other complaints? These allow the height of the fender to be adjusted should you find yourself in a sloppy situation. Everything needed to happen to Japanese standards, and at every milestone in the project tests were taking place with Japanese and Americans. The centre stand is an accessory. Throughout the bike, there are various covers to protect sensitive bits like the sidestand switch — a part I while boulder crawling, rendering the bike unable to start without some wire splicing — as well as forged aluminum footrest brackets which hide otherwise vulnerable electrical components. While 74bhp is way under the power figures of many other adventure bike rivals — which can stretch all the way up to 170bhp with some of the more bonkers offerings from other manufacturers, the way the power is delivered thanks to that 270° firing order keeps the ride interesting.

A more hardcore Yamaha Ténéré 700 could be on the cards

Tenere 700 review

The seat, while it might look like a flat 2×4-esque dirtbike bench from afar, is plush and wide enough for multiple long days in the saddle. While there are lots of offering more technology, greater touring capability, more focus on off-road riding, more power, a larger array of rider safety aids, they all cost considerably more than the Tenere 700 which starts at £8,399. The tech is lovely to have and play with, but six months or maybe even six weeks down the line, will you still be as excited to fiddle with all those options? From the riding position to the bar position and stance, the enduro style bodywork and ergonomics, this is a bike that was developed to conquer challenging landscapes. On the road, the suspension setup works extremely well, keeping the bike planted and stable even if you push the speed. That likely means the frame has been reinforced and geometry changed to suit the 700's mission of ripping on road and off.

Acknowledging the reality of off-road, Yamaha have made the front hugger height-adjustable via four bolts, so clearance can be increased in mud. There has never been a better time to start exploring the next horizon. Seat height is 875 mm but there are lowering links for those short of leg or just those that prefer a lower bike. While accounting for thousands of hours of testing on the development bikes, the Ténéré 700 World Raid program also showcased the design of the motorcycle to many hundreds of local riders who were invited to give Yamaha their valuable input and help shape the final production model. The second point is the balance between agility and stability.

It is especially noticeable on the tarmac when tooling around town—rolling off and then reapplying the throttle results in a small but abrupt jerk. For the last few years, the options for purchasing a modern mid-sized adventure motorcycle were somewhat limited to the and the , augmented only recently by the. The rear is the same giving good levels of control even when wearing bulky motocross boots. The screen is a bit too low for tall riders but the overall on road comfort is good for a full tank of fuel between rests. So, we essentially missed all things mid-sized and Yamaha, as far as adventure is concerned. Given the heritage of the Tenere you would have to hope that it could cut the mustard on the dirt — it would have been an incredible home goal if the engineers had failed to make the 700 live up to the back story.

Yamaha Replaces The T7 Concept With… The Ténéré 700 World Raid Concept

I might have liked to see a bolt-on subframe as well, which, in the event the rear of the bike receives some significant damage, riders would be able to purchase just that piece, rather than being stuck with the entire frame trashed. As the original Tenere was developed to be a true off-road machine, the development of the new Tenere 700 follows in its footsteps. In my opinion, it looks better than the concept — aside from the knobbier tires and trick rally bits — and very similar to the World Raid prototype which teased its way around the globe in the hands of off-road legends. Yamaha call it balance, we can call it compromise. From loose rocky roads to open gravel and back to the highway, the engine performs well. It may only have 74bhp but it delivers everything is has in a fun, easy and engaging way.
